Skin cancer can be life threatening if not treated properly. Today the one of the most successful skin cancer treatment is Mohs micrographic surgery. Developed in the 1930s by Frederic Mohs, a professor at a the Univeristy of Wisconsin, this innovative technique is used by physicians today to successfully target skin cancer cells and skillfully removing them layer by layer. After each layer is removed it is examined under a microscope to determine the scope of the treatment area. The process is repeated until the doctor no longer finds any skin cancer cells. Physicians who perform Mohs surgery are expertly trained in the procedure, receiving specialized fellowship training in the technique.
The goal of Mohs surgery is to remove the cancerous skin and keep as much of the healthy skin as possible. Mohs surgery is extremely effective in the treatment of skin cancer. In fact, it is over 90% effective if the skin cancer is caught early. Treatments are administered in the comfort of our office by Dr. Daniel Rivlin, who is a Board Certified Dermatologist and a Fellowship Trained Mohs surgeon.
